Should you use your elevator pitch as your LinkedIn headline?

Hi there :)

What is the difference between an elevator pitch and a connection request?

One of my clients shared today that her other coach told her to keep her LinkedIn headline very general - something close to “I help women transform into successful leaders”. While that is a decent elevator pitch… it falls a bit flat on LinkedIn…

Here’s why…

When you meet someone in person - you already have a connection - you are in the same room. When you are connecting on LinkedIn - you need to stand out from ALL the millions of other people coaching women to transformation all over the world. You are all of a sudden competing with Oprah…

When you use your profile to call out exactly who serve and how - you eliminate Oprah as your direct competitor and make it much easier for people to connect with you.

The secret formula for an irresistible headline is pretty simple…

I help (my prospect) do (what is that you do) so they can (benefit).

Here’s an example from Jasper’s profile:

Helping old-school, non-techy solopreneurs simplify the technology needed to do business & find new clients online.

It’s pretty clear who he is trying to attract and how he can help them…

While the headline and photo are certainly the most important parts of your LinkedIn profile (they follow you everywhere you go), they are only part of the equation…

Over the past 8 years, Jasper and I have helped hundreds of entrepreneurs with their profiles… we both love helping solopreneurs make a few quick tweaks that make a big difference for connection rates and network growth.

⚒️ What tools do you recommend for X,Y,Z? Every business is different. If you want to really dig in and discuss I suggest a life-saver call. But, we find that ThriveThemes for our website and ThriveCart for the shopping cart is a great combination. For help with writing, we really like the Marketing Magic App (free trial link) And, we love helping people make all three of these things work together.

🛟 I need help!!! Great. Book a “lifesaver call” and we’ll get you unstuck!

Have a great day!

Hi there Reader, Do you do birthday goal setting? My birthday was yesterday. I had a chance to hang out a bit with my husband and dogs up on the mountains. While there, I took a bit of time to work on my goals for next year. (Yes, it's pretty convenient that my birthday is pretty much at the half-way point for the calendar year...).The most frustrating part of goal setting for me is when your goals stay the same year after year. I have had "lose weight" as a goal at least 90% of the lifetime....
